Cookies and Similar Technologies
RAC’s websites (the “Sites”), and in some cases third parties that provide content or functionality on them, may use technologies such as cookies to learn how people use the Sites. This policy explains what those technologies are and how you can control them.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They can recognize your browser or device on later visits, and may hold identifiers, preferences, and other information. We use them to make the Sites work properly, to see which parts are most useful, to improve our content, and to help detect and prevent fraud.
Session cookies are temporary and expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them, which lets a site remember information across visits.
Types of Cookies We May Use
- Necessary cookies let you browse the Sites and use their features. Parts of the Sites may not work without them.
- Preference cookies remember choices you have made so the Sites can work the way you prefer.
- Statistics cookies collect information about how visitors use the Sites, such as which pages they visit most often and how long they stay. This information is aggregated and is not used to identify you.
Managing Cookies
Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can usually set your browser to alert you when a cookie is being sent, or to refuse cookies altogether. See your browser’s help menu for details, or visit allaboutcookies.org to learn more about managing and deleting cookies. Most mobile devices also let you limit mobile device identifiers.
You are not required to accept cookies, but blocking or rejecting them may prevent some features of the Sites from working.
Other Local Storage
Technologies such as HTML5 local storage work like cookies: they store certain information about your activity and preferences on your device, in a different place from ordinary browser cookies. Many browsers let you disable local storage or delete what it holds.
Web Beacons
Web beacons can be embedded in web pages, videos, or emails. They let a web server read certain information from your browser, such as whether you viewed a particular page or message, the date and time, your IP address, and the address of the page where the beacon was viewed.
Third-Party Services on This Site
Fonts. This Site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests them, Google receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details. Google Fonts does not set cookies for this purpose.
Security and bot protection. We use Cloudflare to protect this Site and to confirm that visitors are real people and not automated traffic. Cloudflare receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details, and may set strictly necessary cookies or use similar technologies for this purpose.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use this Site, such as which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and how long they stay. Google Analytics sets cookies on your device and receives information such as your IP address, browser and device details, and the pages you view. We use this information in aggregate to improve the Site’s content and design. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, and we do not combine it with information that identifies you. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits by using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. To learn how Google handles this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
As of the date of this policy, this Site does not use third-party advertising or session-recording tools. If we add embedded media or other third-party services that use cookies or similar technologies, we will update this section to describe them.
Links to Other Sites
The Sites may contain links to third-party websites or online services. This Cookie Policy and our Privacy Policy do not govern those sites. Their own cookie and privacy policies apply, and we are not responsible for their information practices.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed, and changes take effect when they are posted.
